Practice the art of Savoring

Have you been “savoring” the moment?

Savoring – a powerful concept in the realm of well-being. As defined by researchers Fred Bryant and Joseph Veroff, it is the act of attending, appreciating, and enhancing the positive experiences that grace our lives. It’s about relishing the richness of these moments.

But why is savoring so important?
When we actively engage in savoring, we invite more positivity into our lives. We acknowledge the beauty in the ordinary, find gratitude in the small joys, and ultimately, elevate our overall happiness.

In a study by Bryant and Veroff, focusing on the power of savoring during a 20-minute walk, revealed wonderful results. Participants were divided in groups of three.

The first group- recommended having a savoring walk, focusing on all the positives they could find in the environment.

The second group- recommended to focus on all the negatives.

The third group- control- was told to just go for a walk.

The first group, which savored the walk and actively looked for positives in the environment had a more happy result and improved well-being.

From this stems the Savoring Walk. This delightful practice involves taking a 20-minute stroll by yourself, preferably on a different route each time.

During this walk, immerse yourself in the present moment. Pay close attention to the world around you. Tune in to the positive sights, sounds, smells, and sensations that surround you.

Research shows that this simple act of savoring during your walk can lead to an increase in happiness one week later.

So, why not give the Savoring Walk a try this weekend?
