Board Exams & New Attending
Oct 19, 2023New attending & board exams!
I want to give a special shout out to all the incredible Early Career Physicians who at this very moment are not only providing stellar patient care but also sitting for their board exams.
How incredibly resilient, resourceful, compassionate, and driven are you?! For some physicians, their job security is contingent on the results of this exam.
Even though test taking is NOT directly proportional to you being a good doctor. I remember last year, this time was incredibly challenging in its own unique way. Trying to adjust to new workplace dynamics, caring for my family, AND studying for my exams. I was struggling with physical illness and it was so difficult to sit on the chair for that entire time. But I did it! Let’s just pause and recognize how superhuman this is.
If you are a physician about to sit for your board exams or recently did, I want you to remember:
- Pause to Celebrate -how incredible are you to reach this huge milestone?
- It is just an exam- yes, there’s a lot that goes into this exam but at the end of the day, it is just an exam. It DOES NOT affect your worthiness as a human. It DOES NOT dictate your compassion and impact on patient care.
- Let the outcome “be” - Do your best, whatever that looks like, and then just “let it be”. Try not to ruminate on the results.
- Remember to care for your physical needs- hydrate, sleep, movement & some good nutrients
